Nestled in the heart of Cahors’ charming old town, Le Pukèko Cahors - Bar & Grill is a welcoming haven for anyone seeking authentic, lovingly crafted comfort food with a distinctly British twist. This intimate restaurant, located at 137 Rue du Portail Alban, perfectly marries a laid-back bistro vibe with the warmth of genuine hospitality—qualities that its loyal patrons enthusiastically rave about.
Owner David, affectionately known as Dave, pours passion and care into every dish, transforming simple ingredients into extraordinary dining experiences. The star of the menu, without doubt, is the freshly ground, scratch-made burgers, which patrons call “magnifique” and some even claim to be the best in France. Each bite reveals juicy, flavorful beef, delicately seasoned and paired with some of the crispiest, most delicious homemade fries you can find in town. The fish and chips also hold a special place on the menu—the batter crisped to perfection and the fish tender and flaky—showing Dave’s dedication to this classic dish every single day.
Beyond the mains, the menu offers comforting bistro fare such as confit and entrecôte, served alongside homemade chips and fresh salads that add a bright, refreshing balance. For those seeking a sweet finish, the pavlova—a beautifully light and airy meringue dessert—is said to be nothing short of perfect, complementing a robust, expertly prepared flat white coffee to round off the meal.
What truly sets Le Pukèko apart is its atmosphere. From the moment you step in, you're greeted with the warmth of a long-time friend. The space exudes a relaxed, unpretentious ambiance where locals mingle and visitors feel immediately at home. The outdoor seating offers a delightful spot to savor your meal while soaking up the rhythm of old Cahors. Service here is friendly, casual, and attentive without ever feeling rushed—an ideal setting whether you drop in for a quick lunch or spend the evening immersed in good food and good company.
Guests consistently highlight Dave's kindness and genuine care: one group of twelve pilgrims recount being welcomed with open arms despite arriving unannounced, instantly feeling a sense of belonging. Another visitor recalls a helpful recommendation when the kitchen didn’t offer pizza, leading to a return visit to indulge in the sumptuous steaks and burgers. Pricing is reasonable, making Le Pukèko not only a delightful culinary experience but also exceptional value.
Whether you're a devoted fan of hearty English classics, a lover of authentic flavors, or simply searching for a cozy spot to unwind in Cahors, Le Pukèko Cahors - Bar & Grill promises to delight your senses and warm your soul. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a genuine encounter with good food, friendly faces, and the irresistible charm of an English family-run bistro in the heart of France.

Thank you David for such a warm welcome! Twelve of us pilgrims turned up unannounced for drinks and dinner, which could have been a real challenge, but you received us with such kindness that we all felt at home straight away. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was just perfect. I can warmly recommend this lovely place to anyone passing through. Wishing you all the best for the future!

At this conveniently located spot, I was so impressed with the fish and chips that I went back to try the burgers. I was very pleased with both and highly recommend this charming place. The outside seating is quite pleasant.

Owner Dave is a true gem. Le Pukèko is an intimate spot in the old part of Cahors. A laid back, unpretentious vibe where locals feel comfortable, and strangers become friends. Service is friendly and casual. The burgers are scratch made and delicious. Fries are some of the best around. If you are a fish and chips fan, Dave takes great pride and care in the prep. His first language is English but is very fluent in French, and was great at helping translate some great conversation with some of locals we had the pleasure of meeting and sharing some moments with. Dessert fans won't be disappointed with the house specialty, the Pavlova. Partner that with a deliciously brewed coffee, espresso or a dram of whisky and you'll wish you found this place sooner. If you are in Cahors for a day or several, put his on your list of must try places!

Called in to ask if they did pizza (they don’t) but they were kind enough to point us in the right direction. We ended up going back and we were very glad we did. Fantastic steaks and home made burgers. Very good on service and price. Going back in a couple of days the burgers were so good. We've been back for lunch. Couldn't resist. English family run it. Couldn't be more helpful.

We're still sitting here in amazement at how good our hamburgers were. The owner jokingly claimed they were the best in France. He wasn't joking. He grinds the beef freshly for every order. Magnifique.

Best coffee I have had in France. They serve flat-white if you ask. And the pavlova (meringue/Baiser) was perfect!
